Prototype Mac mini Dock Update

The Mac mini dock project that we mentioned in an earlier story has been significantly updated. The new version has an articulated lever that when pulled will release the Mac mini from the dock. Also, an on/off button linkage has been added that allows you to press the power button from the front of the dock.

An interesting functional prototype Mac mini dock has been developed for use in an in-car installation. This prototype allows the user to slide the Mac mini CPU into the dock (much like a removable car stereo) and all the necessary connections are automatically engaged in the back. A small strap can be pulled to disengage the connections and release the unit from the dock.

Let the integration begin... Classic Restorations of Sloatsburg, NY has already begun development of a Mac mini car solution and is taking reservations for installations starting on Jan. 22. They had previously been working on integrating modified iBook and PowerBook car installs when they got wind of the rumored Mac mini.

Their system setup consists of the Mac mini, which can be installed in a standard DIN slot or glove box and a touch screen LCD to interface with the software. Available options include, music (MP3) playback, DVD viewing, WiFi access, and GPS navigation.
